Max Verstappen Claims Pole in Wet Canadian Qualifying

Full Results from Montreal

Red Bull's Max Verstappen will start on pole in Montreal for the first time in his career after topping a wet qualifying session for the Canadian Grand Prix. The Dutchman produced a stunning lap of 1:21.299 to secure his first pole of the 2022 season and the 15th of his career.

Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez will join him on the front row after finishing just 0.054 seconds adrift. Alpine's Fernando Alonso continued his impressive season with a surprise third place, ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.

Leclerc will start the race from the back of the grid after taking a new power unit, while AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda will also start from the back due to an engine change. The conditions were treacherous throughout qualifying, with heavy rain falling throughout the session. Several drivers went off track, including Verstappen and Sainz, but all were able to continue.

The Canadian Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, June 19, at 2:00 PM Eastern Time. Verstappen will be aiming for his second win of the season, while Perez will be hoping to challenge his teammate for the championship lead.
