Former Germanys Next Topmodel Contender in Legal Trouble
Weyel Accused of Stealing Motorbike and Resisting Arrest
Laura Weyel, known for her participation in the 2010 edition of Germany's next Topmodel (GNTM), is facing a potential prison sentence in Bali, Indonesia. According to Indonesian authorities, Weyel is accused of stealing a motorbike and resisting arrest.
Indonesian police apprehended Weyel and her partner, Peter, in Canggu, Bali, on October 8, 2022. The couple allegedly took a motorbike from a rental shop without permission. When confronted by the owner, Weyel and Peter attempted to flee the scene on the stolen vehicle.
Upon their arrest, Weyel and Peter resisted the officers, leading to additional charges of resisting arrest. The police confiscated the stolen motorbike and arrested the couple.
Weyel, who finished third in the 2010 season of GNTM, has been living in Bali for several years. The incident has sparked widespread attention in both Germany and Indonesia, where the penalties for motorbike theft can be severe.
The court proceedings are currently underway, and the outcome remains uncertain. If convicted, Weyel could face a prison sentence of up to five years for the theft and a separate charge for resisting arrest.
Weyel's lawyer has argued that she was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident and had no intention of stealing the motorbike. The court is expected to rule on the case in the coming weeks, determining the fate of the former GNTM finalist.
